Aaron Archuleta
With over 17 years of experience in aquarium operations, I have honed my skills and passion for animal care, facility management, and life support systems, transforming my hobby into a fulfilling career. I began my journey in 2007 as a Life Support Technician at the Downtown Aquarium Denver, where I gained invaluable hands-on experience with various aquatic systems, ranging from cold water to tropical warm water setups. During this time, one of the highlights was interacting with the majestic Sumatran Tigers, an experience that deepened my appreciation for both aquatic and terrestrial species.
After four years, I transitioned to the California Science Center, where I spent 12 years refining my technical expertise and rising to leadership roles. In 2019, I was promoted to Life Support Systems Manager, where I not only managed the intricate life support systems but also led a small security team responsible for overseeing animal welfare and monitoring the facility’s CCTV systems.
In the fall of 2023, I joined the Roundhouse as the Senior Aquarium Facilities Director, where I oversee the daily operations of animal husbandry, life support, facility maintenance, and repair projects. Since joining, I have spearheaded numerous upgrade and repair initiatives aimed at improving the guest experience and ensuring optimal conditions for animal welfare. My ultimate goal is to bring national recognition to the Roundhouse, working towards AZA accreditation to further elevate the facility’s standards and reputation within the industry.
Outside of my professional life, I cherish spending time with my family—my wife,and two daughters, along with our dog. I am also an avid sports enthusiast, playing on an adult baseball team and serving as an assistant coach for my daughter’s little league team. Maintaining my own home reef aquarium allows me to stay connected to my roots in aquarium keeping, and I continue to draw inspiration from both my professional and personal passions.
