Citizen Science

Use the power of curiosity and passion to fuel learning and accelerate scientific research.

Citizen science is a way the public can participate and contribute to community and global research initiatives directed towards solving real-world problems. Citizen scientists participate in projects using the scientific method by asking questions, making predictions, collecting and analyzing data, interpreting results, and finding solutions.

At the Roundhouse Aquarium we give staff and students the opportunity to  participate in citizen science projects on a variety of coastal ecology topics such as behavior and census studies of local marine mammals that frequent the Santa Monica Bay near the Manhattan Beach Pier, water quality monitoring, plankton studies and many more. Citizen scientists make a difference by advancing scientific knowledge and increasing science literacy. For more information, please contact volunteer@roundhouseaquarium.org.
